Artist Statement

Originally born in Italy but living in England most of my life, I have always considered myself a painter and I have always been in love with colour and the materiality of paint.  More recently, I have also been interested in looking in more depth at the use of other materials such as sand, marble dust and other found materials that together with pigments can help build feelings of familiarity and recognition.

My work seeks to trigger nostalgia, memories of childhood, and of longing for lost places, feelings familiar to the migrant experience and that to me refers more specifically to Italy and Liguria.

I am helped in my research, by childhood memories and colours of when I was growing up in Italy, by my children, and by the Italian poets who have talked about childhood and longing, such as Leopardi, Montale and Ungaretti
