Originally born in Italy but living in England most of my life, I have always considered myself a painter and I have always been in love with colour and the materiality of paint.  More recently, I have also been interested in looking in more depth at the use of other materials such as sand, marble dust and other found materials.  

My work is about nostalgia, a classification I resisted for a long time. Interestingly, the etymology for nostalgia was coined in the seventeenth century as the name of an illness, thought to be fatal, the second half of the word being from the Greek ‘algos’ meaning pain.

In my case it is triggered by childhood memories and colours of when I was growing up in Italy, by me worrying about my children, by everyday materials and found objects and by the Italian poets who have talked about childhood and longing, such as Leopardi, Montale and Ungaretti.
